Prevent Blindness Oklahoma

Our mission is to preserve sight and prevent blindness.
Prevent Blindness Oklahoma is the state's leading volunteer eye health and safety organization dedicated to fighting blindness and saving sight. Established in 1965, Prevent Blindness Oklahoma is the only non-profit agency in Oklahoma dedicated exclusively to fighting blindness. Prevent Blindness Oklahoma is an affiliate of the national organization, Prevent Blindness America, which was founded in 1908.

"Lookie" is the mascot for our Children's Vision Screening Program, which is the cornerstone of Prevent Blindness Oklahoma. We have been providing vision screenings for children at preschools, day cares, Head Starts and public schools for 43 years. Prevent Blindness Oklahoma provides services in all 77 counties in Oklahoma. We also provide safety and educational programs, as well as, serve as an information and referral service for Oklahomans.

During the 2008 - 2009 school year alone, we:

  •    provided 251,293 children's vision screenings.
  •    referred 25,931 of these children to an eye care professional for further evaluation.
  •    provided these services in over 1,000 locations throughout the 77 counties in Oklahoma.
      provided free eye exams and glasses for over 176 children.
